Wood moves as its moisture content changes, swelling when humidity is high and shrinking when humidity is low. Because of our humidity fluctuations, wood movement is greater in New England than almost anywhere in the continental U.S!

Why does this matter? Well, when wood contracts and expands, it can cause doors and drawers to stick. In some circumstances, it can also crack your cabinet doors or table tops; this means you need to account for wood movement when you build furniture or cabinets.
