Wood Theory
Wood moves as its moisture content changes, swelling when humidity is high and shrinking when humidity is low. Because of our humidity fluctuations, wood movement is greater in New England than almost anywhere in the continental U.S!
Why does this matter? Well, when wood contracts and expands, it can cause doors and drawers to stick. In some circumstances, it can also crack your cabinet doors or table tops; this means you need to account for wood movement when you build furniture or cabinets.
Since wood movement is such an important consideration in fine woodworking, we’ve developed a 2-hour Wood Theory seminar to help you understand how it affects the choices you make in wood selection, milling and joinery.
If you’re just starting out, this is the perfect companion piece to Milling Rough Lumber & Table Saw Techniques, and if you want to combine all three workshops, you get a 10% discount!
If you’ve been a woodworker for awhile, it’s a great refresher and a critical part of the milling process.
